Meet Florence and James Kennedy

Hello, we’re Florence and James Kennedy and we run Petalon.

Petalon was founded by me, Florence, in London. When my husband James needed to send someone a thank you bouquet back in 2014, we really struggled to find something both beautiful and reasonably priced. Surrounded by the bicycles that James built for his own business, together with a strong sense that businesses should be doing more for the environment, we were struck with an idea. Petalon was born, with the aim of delivering truly beautiful and unique flowers, that don’t cost the earth – both literally and figuratively speaking.

Fast forward to 10 years later and Petalon looks very different to those days, when I would visit the flower market at the crack of dawn before arranging the bouquets and then cycling around East London to deliver them myself.

We moved to Cornwall in 2019 and now have the space and warmer climate to grow our own flowers, which we deliver nationwide. Those dawn catch ups with flower friends at the market are swapped with dawn catch ups over the blossoming flower fields at our home, discussing what needs to be harvested that week and what bouquets can be designed.

Not only does this mean we’ve reduced our reliance on imported flowers massively, it means we can grow the more unusual colours and varieties I always wanted to see at the flower market – making beautiful, British-grown flowers more accessible to everyone. It’s quite simply a dream come true and we’re thankful for every single one of you who’s followed our journey.
